Its 2.49 here in Montana well last time I put gas in my car...but it has been rising for the past week..so it will be damn near 3 because of the hurricane

why have a tribute to high prices?

i remember complaining when it got over 27.9 cent a gallon and usually filled my 56 chevy for less than 3.50 (15 gallons)

It sucks that the hurricane destroyed New Orleans(which is where I live, my house is underwater right now). There were a lot of oil reserves and pumps there. I've seen 6 bucks a gallon in georgia!!

It's up to 3 bucks here in pa. Luckily I filled up my tank a day or two ago. Lets see if it lasts till the price drops.

It's a real shame gas stations are using the tragedy as an excuse to raise prices. I'm guessing this is the case since they have been raising prices before Katrina hit too. I don't know how much of the oil refinery infrastructure (compared to all the other refineries in the US) was taken out but was it really enough to affect prices nationally? Fill me in if you know more. I just heard on the radio that the prices may go up to £1 a litre here now. I wouldn't mind paying £1.10 if I knew the oil companies were donating some of it to help the people. And are they gonna go down when the refineries are rebuilt? I bet they won't.

Gas prices were almost $3 a gallon in Virginia a week ago when I last gassed up. Dang if this isn't proof that we aren't in Iraq for the oil I dunno what is.

I don't think they're using that as an excuse to hike up prices. They have been affected by it too, and the price would have increased on them as well. And yes, I could see them raising prices beforehand, to cope with the coming trajedy.

I'm on incapacity benefits because I can't work and I get a grand total of £136.90 odd from the government per fortnight (two weeks) for myself. I live with one parent and my mum pays towards my upkeep as well. My sister is in full time education so she just works weekends.
Basically, I'm pretty poor for a twenty year old who wants to have a life and drive a car.. but I'm totally not bothered about fuel prices. My car's pretty economical, I think I did my first 1000 miles on under £70 petrol. Might even have been less that £65, and I don't care if the next thousand costs me double.
Why?
Cos I know where fuel comes from, how much there is, how hard it is to get and how long it will last. I know it, I accept it. Done deal.

I don't waste my time (not saying you lot do) worrying about fuel prices, even though my whole livelyhood rests on me needing my car for mobility.
I guess I'd piss and moan for a bit like all middle aged male drivers do, (I'm a middle aged male driver -_-) but at the end of the day, why complain.

The world is coming to an end, my country is f**ked but there are no solutions. Just have to make the best of it. People who go on fuel strikes might believe they're changing the world but I just tend to accept things rather than argue for a better life.

Only gonna be here another 60 odd years anyway.. and about my kids? Well, they'll probably all be gits anyway

now if the dipsticks in foggy bottom would get an all out coal program going we could give OPEC the brush off as we have as much coal reserves as opec has oil

yesterday gas prices in OKC, oklahoma were $2.97 a gallon, but the day b4 that they were $2.60, and the day b4 that, it was $2.45, so no telling what it is today lol. i got a text msg saying that today, ppl are supposed to boycott gas, and not buy any lol.

Thanks for that. That is very significant

But the suspicious side of me still suspects that once all is rebuilt, and losses have been offset, they won't reduce prices to end users.

As for me personally, my insurance costs are whole multiples of my fuel costs. Now there's some real injustice. Several hundred more because I'm not a girl - even though I have a clean licence for years. My sister's friend who failed the test 4 times and has been caught speeding and has only had a license for less than a year pays hundreds less. Sorry that's off-topic.

As high as the price of fuel gets in the US - it'll always be higher in the EU and the UK. Part of the reason is that the price of oil is standardized in terms of US Dollars. Unfortunately, as the US dollar gets weaker, OPEC will raise the price of oil in order to maintain a profit in the world economy. That makes for a vicious cycle because increasing oil prices eventually result in a larger trade deficit in the US - further weakening the US Dollar.

So it's gonna get worse before it gets better. But it's not wholely intolerable since we're paying less at the pump than our counterparts in, say, the UK.

this morning on my way to class the same shell station was 3.05
this afternoon after class shell was 3.41

There's a couple of other factors that people tend to not realize. The US is divided into 8 zones(I think it's 8) by the EPA, each zone has a specific formula for the gas it uses, so that we have 8 or so different mixtures of gasoline around the US, this reduces supply and cramps refining ability. The simplest solution would be to pick the cleanest formula, which happens to be CA's and make it the nationwide standard. This would allow every refinery in the US to produce the same product, which could then be shipped anywhere in the US. Factor number 2 - ethanol, in order to protect the farm states, the EPA has ordered that ethanol be added in to a lot of the mixes even when there are alternatives to ethanol that are just as safe. Again using CA as the example, when CA was told to remove M??(forgot the dang name of that additive already), the oil companies wanted to use a different additive that was just as effective as ethanol, and cheaper as it could be produced in state, but no, the EPA(with some pushing by cornbelt reps/sens) insisted that only ethanol could be added to CA gas, which of course needs to be transported all the way from Iowa or other nearby states, increasing the cost of refining.

Tch. The problem is that the Hydrogen is still being refined from fossill fuels. You can't just stick your garden hose in, you still have to stop at a epecialized refueling station, and there are VERY few of them... most in DC. Also, it's not that water will really EVER be able to run the cars, its that water will be the only emission.
